Over the years many photographs have been taken of Courageous and her crew. Many of these photographs are held by our Archivist, Pittk, who is a driving force behind the Courageous exhibit and its continued upkeep and improvement.

Pittk has recently sent me many of the photographs held by The Association archives and these are now available to you to view here in the HMS Courageous Association web site. There are numerous albums and each can be reached by clicking on the relevant link below.

The numbered albums are roughly in chronological order and catalogue the life of the boat and it’s crew. The named albums are self explanatory.

We hope you enjoy the photographs and that for those who served in Courageous they bring back happy memories of the boat and crew mates.

For those visitors who have not served in submarines we hope that they will give you an insight into the life of the men who served beneath the oceans to protect the country and ensure that peace was maintained.

There is also an album showing photographs of the aircraft carrier HMS Courageous which was so sadly lost, with the loss of many lives, when she was torpedoed off Southern Ireland in 1939.

If you have any photographs which you would be willing to send to us we would welcome them and be happy to add them to our albums. You can send them to us by e-mail or post at the following address.

hmscourageous@btinternet.com

HMS Courageous Association, 38 Martinsyde, East Hill, Woking, Surrey, GU22 8HT.

Original photos will be scanned and returned, photos sent on USB memory sticks will be copied and the memory stick returned. Please remember to enclose your postal address if you want items returned. We look forward to receiving your photographs. Thank you.

THE ALBUMS

bookplainThe HMS Courageous Association has produced a wonderful hardback book to honour the service given by the submarine and her crew. Written by Michael Pitkeathly, our Association Archivist, the book is imaginitively written using facts gleaned from official records interspersed with tales and personal recollections provided by members of the crew. David Wixon edited the tome to a manageable level and drive the publication through to its conclusion.

The book is available in the Association Shop in this web site. An independent review of the book can be seen by clicking on the book cover shown here.

Buy the book by visiting our shop using the shop link in the navigation bar below.
