Have your say in the Society Forum

It has been asked, on several occasions, whether The Society would be willing to support a reunion in San Diego. The submarine spent approximately eight months there in the second commission and the crew of that period have fond memories of their time there.

It has always been considered that the limited number of people who went there on the boat would make attendance smaller than could be deemed viable for a full reunion to be organised.

The subject of a San Diego reunion was once again raised at the 2008 AGM and Ian Vickers, a member of the International Submariner’s Association (ISA) pointed out in response that the American branch of the ISA were holding an event in San Diego in September 2009.

Although this is primarily an ISA event there is nothing to prevent Courageous Society members from attending the event and holding their own San Diego reunion within the ISA organisation. The ISA event is a dip in dip out affair where those attending are invited to attend as many or as few of the organised events as they wish and, outside of that they are free to do their own thing.

For those of you who would like to learn more of the event in San Diego then here is a link to the ISA web site that has been produced to deal with the event. It gives details of the event itself, the accommodation and functions within the event. Just click on the link below to visit the ISA web site.

SAN DIEGO ISA EVENT

Ian Vickers, an ISA member gives the following advice about the San Diego event.

“Signing up for the San Diego event must be done via the ISA as they are sponsoring the convention. The cost of registration seems expensive but you must allow for the fact that it covers a lot of the visits, transport, food and entertainment. You normally only have to put your hand in your pocket for beer money”.

If you want to attend the convention in San Diego, as Ian says, you will need to become a member of the ISA. Annual membership costs £15-00 and there is an option to sign up for a quarterly magazine at an additional cost of £10-00. If you would like to join please click on the link below for a membership form.
